Webmaster/programmer 30 Aug 2010, 4:52 am
Shavei Israel is a client of mine. They are a non-profit organization in Jerusalem that works with “lost” and “hidden” Jewish communities around the world.
Shavei is looking for a part-time webmaster/programmer to operate and maintain its website. The site is currently outsourced to a third-party vendor; we want to bring this in-house.
The position will involve making regular improvements to content and functionality on the site (for example, integrating PayPal with new fundraising campaigns, adding SEO functionality, or making changes to the look, feel and layout of the existing site).
Over time, we want to entirely overhaul the site, currently built using ASP.net, and re-build it using a tool such as WordPress, Joomla or Drupal. We may develop a separate blog site.
We also need to build and maintain an integrated database of all from our web, email and e-commerce activities, monitor our web server remotely, and compile website traffic reports and web analytics.
We will also look into tighter integration with social media and mobile platforms (the position may involve developing or managing development of mobile platform apps by a third-party vendor).
If applicable, the position may also be involved with creating and implementing Flash banner advertisements, contests, polls, and online promotions.
We anticipate the position will require one to two days of work per week for maintenance with additional hours when making site improvements. The webmaster/programmer will work offsite.
Requires:
• Experience managing small-to-medium sites with hundreds of pages of content and e-commerce functionality.
• Experience coding or customizing in either WordPress, Joomla or Drupal.
• Experience with various web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, etc.) and working with an offsite server.
• Experience with ASP.net and databases a plus.
• Experience with PayPal integration, shopping carts, and other payment processing services an advantage.
• Familiarity with social media tools.
• Some knowledge and experience in graphic design a plus.
• Familiarity with mobile devices and apps a plus.
• Familiarity with third party email systems (such as ConstantContact).
• Familiarity with integrating and playing back media (audio, video) including knowledge of future technologies such as HTML5.
• Knowledge of search engine algorithms and ranking strategies a plus.
• Ability to work comfortably in an English-speaking environment, including oral and written communication.
• Ability to work independently and with a small team of non-technical staff.
• Excellent attention to detail, flexible and adaptable to changes.
